Automobili Pininfarina Reveals All-Electric Supercar
【Summary】By 2020, new luxury car company, Automobili Pininfarina, plans to release a1,500 horsepower electric supercar.
Pininfarina is known for creating gorgeous vehicles – including many Ferraris. Soon, the Italian firm will be designing a new high-end electric car line, called Automobili Pininfarina. It's first vehicle will be an all-electric, 1,500 horsepower supercar, slated for release in 2020.
Timeless design and sustainable technology
The Automobili Pininfarina brand will merge classic design with advanced technology. It's a joint effort between Pininfarina and it's parent company, Mahindra. Mahindra is an India-based automaker that cut its teeth in Formula E racing. Over the years, it has acquired the knowledge needed to forge a new electric car company.
At the helm of the Automobili Pininfarina brand will be Michael Perschke, a 25 year industry veteran. Perschke previously worked for several premium German automakers in high-level roles. According to Anand Mahindra, Chairman, Mahindra Group, "Italy's renowned design expertise produces objects of true beauty and unique style. Drawing upon the pedigree and design vocabulary of the Pininfarina aesthetic heritage we will develop a rare collector's item that only a handful of connoisseurs will ever own.
It will be an innovative and pioneering product powered by high technology. The Mahindra Group has bet big on electric vehicles. They are the future, and when power, beauty and high end EV technology come together in one car — that will be the perfect luxury vehicle, that will give car lovers the freedom to roam without impacting the planet adversely."
All-electric, 1,500 horsepower supercar
The first vehicle from the Automobili Pininfarina label will be an electric supercar, codenamed PF-Zero. Sources say the car will also use technology developed by Rimac, and that it will produce over 1,500 hp.
This will make it capable of 0-62 mph in less than two seconds, and 0-186 mph in less than 12 seconds. Top speed will be 250 mph, with a range of 310 miles between charges. The PF-Zero is slotted for launch in 2020 with an expected price tag of around $2.5 million.
Design of the electric hyper car will be the responsibility of design director, Luca Borgogno. According to the company, early sketches of the PF-Zero are Borgogno's work.
Automobili Pininfarina doesn't plan to build just one electric supercar. Going forward, the company intends to build a full range of electric vehicles, including SUVs and sedans.
