Redwood Materials is Building an Electric Vehicle Battery Recycling Facility in South Carolina

Electric vehicle battery recycling startup Redwood Materials announced its building a battery recycling facility in South Carolina. The facility will support the region’s emergence as a growing EV and battery manufacturing hub. The company collects end-of-life batteries and extracts valuable raw materials such as nickel, copper, cobalt, and lithium, which are then used to manufacture cathode and anode materials for new batteries.

Straubel, announced a new partnership to build out a electric vehicle battery recycling operation and establish a domestic battery supply chain. Ford and Redwood’s collaboration will integrate battery recycling into Ford’s domestic EV battery strategy, as the automaker develops more purely electric vehicles.

Tesla Plans to Add EV Components Recycling Facilities at its Shanghai Factory

Electric automaker Tesla plans to build facilities for recycling battery cells and other electric vehicle components such as electric motors at its factory in Shanghai, according to a document submitted by Tesla to authorities in Shanghai. Chief Executive Elon Musk said at the company's Battery Day event in Sept 2020 that he was looking at recycling batteries to supplement the supply of raw materials, including nickel and cobalt as Tesla increases its annual vehicle production.
