The Polestar 5 Sedan Will Have Dual Electric Motors With 884 HP
【Summary】We got our first glance at a prototype of the forthcoming Polestar 5 at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed taking place from June 23 through 26th.
The gorgeous Polestar Precept concept car that Polestar debuted at the 2020 Geneva Auto Show received the green light to be turned into an actual production vehicle the same year it debuted. Beyond knowing that the vehicle would be called the Polestar 5, there isn't a lot of available information on the upcoming car. Now, Polestar is ready to provide some specs for the Polestar 5.
Polestar 5 Concept Can Be Spotted This Month
The Polestar 5 is making its first public appearance, at least in concept form, at this year's 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex, England. The show runs from June 23 rd to June 26 th. The Polestar 5 will be one of the "First Glance" group of cars that will run up the Goodwood hill twice a day during the event.
For the Polestar 5, Polestar developed a new platform that utilizes bonded aluminum. This is to increase the vehicle's rigidity, while keeping the frame as light as possible. The vehicle at the Goodwood Festival of Speed appears to have a similar front-end design as the Precept Concept, but the rest of the body is hidden under a camouflage wrap. This makes it hard to see specific elements, but the Polestar 5 is clearly still a work in progress.
Polestar has finally provided information on what kind of performance its flagship vehicle will have. The Polestar will feature a dual-electric motor setup with an 800-volt architecture. Polestar is targeting a combined output of 884 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. With those figures, the Polestar 5 is expected to have impressive performance.
Still A Few Years Away
"The new powertrain we are working on will set a new brand benchmark in our high-performance cars. Combining strong electric motor engineering ability with advances in light-weight platform technology is leading to truly stunning driver's cars," said Jörg Brandscheid, Polestar's CTO and Head of R&D.
The Polestar 5 is expected to arrive in 2024 after the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4. Polestar stated that the Polestar 5 would be manufactured at a new carbon-neutral facility in China. When the vehicle goes on sale, it will compete against pricey EVs like the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S, Lucid Air, and Mercedes-Benz EQS.
