2024 Mercedes-AMG GT coupe features an integrated racing mentor
【Summary】Mercedes has unveiled the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe, which comes with a built-in driving instructor. The new model features rear seats for the first time, a more rounded design with active aerodynamics, a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine, and all-wheel drive. The car also includes an augmented reality lap coach to help drivers improve their racing skills. Pricing has yet to be announced, but it is expected to start around $140,000.
The AMG in-house tuning shop of Mercedes-Benz has a long and storied racing history, which is why their signature product, the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe, is expected to be a precise machine. However, what sets this car apart is the built-in driving instructor that comes with it.
One noticeable change in this version of the car is the slight name change. It is now called the AMG GT Coupe, whereas previous versions were simply known as the AMG GT. Additionally, the AMG GT Coupe now has rear seats, making it a 2+2 for the first time. However, these rear seats are not very spacious and are not suitable for adult passengers.
The new design of the AMG GT Coupe maintains the simple and aggressive aesthetic of its predecessors. The fascia is slightly rounder, and larger vents help cool the front brakes. The car also features active aerodynamics, including a retractable spoiler and active louvers that open at specific temperatures to allow maximum cooling air flow.
Under the hood, the AMG GT Coupe is equipped with a handcrafted 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine. The base GT 55 version produces 469 horsepower, while the hotter GT 63 version boasts 577 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds. Power is sent to all four wheels through an AMG SpeedShift MCT 9G transmission and an all-wheel-drive system with torque vectoring.
One of the standout features of the AMG GT Coupe is its built-in racing instructor. Lap and sector times are displayed on various screens in the car, including the multimedia display, head-up display, and instrument cluster. The navigation system also provides information on cornering angles and braking points to help the driver find the best racing line.
The interior of the AMG GT Coupe features an 11.9-inch touchscreen and a flat-bottom steering wheel wrapped in high-quality materials. The standard sport seats offer exceptional comfort and lateral support, while the optional AMG Performance seats are even sportier and feature integrated headrests and ventilation openings. However, it is worth noting that the rear seats are only suitable for occupants less than five feet tall.
Mercedes has not yet revealed the pricing for the AMG GT Coupe, but it is expected to start around $140,000.
