BYD's Affordable EV Manual Hints at Impending Deliveries
【Summary】BYD has released the owner manual for its Dolphin electric car in Australia, indicating that deliveries are imminent. The Dolphin, which became Australia's cheapest EV at $38,890, is available in two variants with different motor and battery configurations. The manual covers key areas such as safety, driving, and maintenance. Delivery is expected in September/October, and initial feedback from experience centers has been positive.
BYD has established itself as a popular brand in the Australian EV community, thanks to the success of its first electric SUV model, the Atto 3.
In addition to the Atto 3, BYD has recently unveiled a smaller city hatchback electric car called the Dolphin. The official launch of the Dolphin will take place at SeaWorld in June. The publication of the Dolphin Owners handbook online suggests that customer deliveries will begin soon.
During the SeaWorld launch event, the Dolphin became the most affordable EV in Australia, with a starting price of $38,890 for the base Dynamic trim. This version of the Dolphin is equipped with a smaller 70 kW motor and a 44.9 kWh battery pack.
The Premium variant of the Dolphin, priced at $44,890, offers a more powerful 150 kW motor and a larger 60.48 kWh battery pack. This version provides a range of up to 427 km according to WLTP standards.
The 192-page Dolphin Owners handbook covers various important aspects of the electric city hatchback, including safety, instrument cluster, controller operations, using and driving the vehicle, in-vehicle devices, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
In terms of dimensions, the Dolphin measures 4,290 mm in length, 1,770 mm in width, and 1,570 mm in height. These dimensions are similar to its main competitor, the MG4 hatchback, which has recently started delivering vehicles to local customers.
According to the BYD website, the Dolphin Dynamic and Premium variants are expected to be delivered in September/October.
The Driven, a publication, had the opportunity to experience the Dolphin firsthand and shared their initial impressions last month. Numerous potential Dolphin customers have also had the chance to see the vehicle up close at BYD experience centers around the country, with overall positive feedback.
With the availability of the owner's manual for current and future customers, the official deliveries of the Dolphin are expected to be just around the corner. We are excited to test-drive the new Dolphin and share its features and benefits within the affordable EV segment in Australia.
