Cleaner CBR600RR
【Summary】Honda has unveiled an updated CBR600RR supersport bike at the Suzuki 8 Hours endurance race in Japan. While there is no confirmation of its release in the UK or Europe, there is a possibility that Honda could make the necessary updates to meet Euro 5 emissions standards and bring it to these markets. However, the supersport market is limited, with the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R being the only true competitor. Honda may also consider introducing a CBR750R using the Honda CB750 Hornet's engine.
The historic Suzuki 8 Hours endurance race in Japan showcased Honda's latest update to their CBR600RR supersport bike. While the exterior may appear familiar, the Japanese manufacturer has made adjustments to the exhaust and engine to meet Japanese emissions standards.
Although Honda has not mentioned reintroducing the CBR600RR to the UK or European market, there is a glimmer of hope. The latest Japanese emissions standards align closely with the Euro 5 rules used in these regions. It is plausible that Honda could implement the necessary updates for the European market and potentially release the CBR600RR there in the future.
However, the situation is not as straightforward as it seems. The supersport market remains limited, with the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R being the only true competitor in the UK. The beloved Yamaha R6 was discontinued in 2020 and is now available solely as a track-ready option for dedicated enthusiasts and racing teams. While the prospect of a new bike challenging the Kawasaki on the road and the R6 on the track is exciting, Honda must carefully consider the risk and reward involved.
The supersport segment in the UK and Europe is undergoing significant changes, particularly with the rise of parallel twin-cylinder powerplants. This shift is driving a revolution in the lightweight to middleweight sports bike category. It might be more feasible for Honda to produce and sell a CBR750R in these markets, potentially utilizing the 90bhp engine from the Honda CB750 Hornet as a starting point.
