Enhanced 2024 ID.4 EV: Performance, Power, Technology

Volkswagen of America has announced that the 2024 ID.4 electric compact SUV with an 82 kWh battery will receive significant upgrades. These upgrades include a new performance drive unit, which will result in improved horsepower and range. In addition to the performance drive unit, the 82 kWh models will also feature an enhanced infotainment display and a premium audio system.

The 2024 ID.4 will continue to be manufactured in Chattanooga, Tennessee and will be available in three trim levels: Standard/Pro, S, and S Plus. Customers will have the option to choose between 62 kWh or 82 kWh batteries, as well as rear-wheel-drive or all-wheel-drive.

The main highlight of the upgrades for the 82 kWh models is the introduction of the new performance drive unit. The rear-wheel-drive model will now produce an impressive 282 horsepower, while the all-wheel-drive model will generate around 330 horsepower. This increase in power is expected to improve acceleration and enhance the overall range of the vehicle. Specific EPA-estimated ranges for the 2024 ID.4 will be announced closer to its market launch.

In addition to the performance upgrades, Volkswagen has also focused on enhancing the technology and comfort features of the 2024 ID.4. The 82 kWh models will now come equipped with a larger 12.9-inch infotainment display, a more intuitive climate control interface, and a revised infotainment menu. The car will also receive a new shifter position and a redesigned steering wheel layout.

The 2024 ID.4 prioritizes comfort and convenience by offering ventilated front-row seats in the S models with the 82 kWh battery. The S Plus models, on the other hand, will come with a premium harman/kardonTM audio system that includes nine speakers, a subwoofer, and a 16-channel amplifier.

On the exterior, the 2024 ID.4 will feature wheel upgrades. The ID.4 Standard AWD models will come with larger 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, while the S Plus vehicles will be equipped with 21-inch machined alloy wheels.

Pricing details for the 2024 ID.4 will be announced closer to its release in early 2024. It's worth noting that the 2023 ID.4 models are eligible for the full Federal Tax Credit of up to $7,500. Volkswagen is currently the only foreign automaker that has a battery electric vehicle eligible for the full Federal Tax credit, thanks to its local assembly and sourcing.
