Ford Tourneo Custom 2023: A Fresh Look
【Summary】Ford's new Tourneo Custom model is a significant improvement over its predecessors, effectively hiding its van origins. It aims to serve as the successor to Ford's S-MAX and Galaxy models. Despite its relatively high prices, even the base models offer ample equipment and spacious cabins. The new Tourneo Custom will be available with up to nine seats and will eventually include PHEV and electric versions.
Ford is aiming to expand the Tourneo brand, and the latest Custom model is set to boost its reputation. This vehicle cleverly disguises its van origins and can be seen as the spiritual successor to Ford's S-MAX and Galaxy models. While the prices may be steep, even the entry-level models come with a generous amount of features and spacious cabins.
In the past, Ford's passenger-carrying versions of the Transit were essentially vans with seats. However, the Tourneo brand has made efforts to change that perception. The previous generation Tourneo Custom was a step in the right direction, but the all-new model is even more impressive.
The new version is being launched alongside the new Transit Custom, which we have previously discussed as a van that offers a more car-like driving experience. This bodes well for the passenger variant, which will be available with up to nine seats, depending on the chosen specifications.
While there are plans for PHEV and electric versions in 2024, the current model is powered by diesel. In this review, we test the 168bhp version with Ford's eight-speed automatic gearbox.
