If a vehicle receives the Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), it is considered to be as safe as possible. Genesis, the luxury division of Hyundai, recently earned three of these awards for their sport utility vehicles (SUVs).

However, there are still some areas where the Top Safety Pick+ award has room for improvement. The GV60, Genesis' first-ever electric vehicle, scored acceptable for the ease of use of the child seat anchors. The GV70, available with both internal combustion and electric propulsion, was rated advanced instead of superior for vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention. The larger GV80 earned acceptable ratings for the headlights and child seat anchors.

Despite these areas for improvement, it's important to note that all three of these vehicles performed well in crashworthiness evaluations. They excelled in tests such as the small overlap front crash test, moderate overlap front crash test, and side crash test. Genesis is known for offering high-quality vehicles, so it's no surprise that their GV crossovers received the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award. All three vehicles come equipped with standard airbags, Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, which can detect cyclists and pedestrians.

The GV60, which is also available in limited numbers, starts at a price of $60,550 for the Advanced version. The Performance AWD variant costs $69,550. While the Performance AWD offers impressive power with 483 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque, its range is limited to 235 miles. The Advanced AWD also has a relatively low range of 248 miles.

Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) is where the US-spec GV70 and Electrified GV70 for the 2024 model year are produced. The GV70, which shares the platform with the larger GV80, comes with various engine options and starts at a price of $44,900.

The GV80 gained attention in February 2021 when professional golfer Tiger Woods crashed one on Hawthorne Boulevard in Los Angeles. Despite the vehicle rolling multiple times, Woods survived the crash with injuries. The safety of the GV80 likely played a significant role in protecting him during the accident.
