Honda's Latest Electric City Car Comes with a Unique 'Pocket' Feature

Honda made quite a splash at the Tokyo Motor Show with its surprise reveal of the Prelude Concept. However, that wasn't the only exciting thing the Japanese firm had in store. They also introduced the Sustaina-C, a little electric city car that focuses on sustainability.

The Sustaina-C lives up to its name by utilizing body panels made from recycled and reused acrylic resin. Honda believes that this type of resource circulation will allow them to overcome the limitations of scarce resources. It's a step towards a more sustainable future.

When it comes to design, the Sustaina-C takes inspiration from the original City but bears a closer resemblance to the current Honda e. Its overall body shape is similar to the EV supermini, complete with rounded headlights that give it a slightly disapproving look.

While the shape may be reminiscent of the Honda e, the Sustaina-C differentiates itself with a more angular bonnet and two-tone paint that extends to the wheel arches, giving it a chunkier appearance. The flat-faced wheels are equipped with thin tires to minimize rolling resistance.

Equipped with a fully-electric powertrain, the Sustaina-C is likely to be paired with the Honda e's 35.5kWh battery. Hopefully, it will offer a longer range than the Honda e's maximum of 137 miles.

In addition to the Sustaina-C, Honda also unveiled the Pocket Concept, an electric bike that pays homage to the iconic Motocompo from the 1980s. Designed for "last-mile mobility," this compact bike can be conveniently stored in the back of the Sustaina-C for short trips into town centers. Honda has also announced a successor to the Motocompo, the all-electric Motocompacto, set to debut in September 2023.
