MINI Cooper and Countryman EVs to be unveiled at IAA Mobility 2023 in September

This year's IAA Mobility event in Munich will feature two world premieres from MINI, both of which are electric vehicles (EVs). The fourth-generation MINI Cooper and third-generation MINI Countryman have been teased in the months leading up to the event.

Starting with the Cooper, the carmaker has already revealed the exterior styling of the hatchback, which has been simplified compared to the outgoing model. The design includes a mostly blanked-off front grille with an octagonal shape, round integrated headlamps, and triangular taillights connected by a trim piece at the rear.

Inside, the redesigned Cooper takes inspiration from the original Mini, with a centrepiece circular OLED touchscreen display measuring 9.4 inches in diameter. The speedometer is displayed within the centre circle, along with additional information like the current gear and remaining range. The car also features a head-up display for crucial driving information.

The new model of the Cooper has relocated and redesigned controls, with a panel housing the gear selector switch and controls for select vehicle functions. The fully electric Cooper, known as the MINI Electric, will be offered in two variants with different battery capacities and power ratings.

The Cooper will also be available with combustion engines, in addition to electric powertrains. The MINI Electric is expected to be manufactured in China, while the combustion engine Cooper will be built in the United Kingdom.

As for the Countryman, there are no photos of the crossover without camouflage yet, but teaser images suggest a familiar shape. The new Countryman will be longer and taller than its predecessor, offering improved headroom. It will also be produced in Germany, marking the first time a MINI model is manufactured in the country.

The Countryman will be available with both all-electric and combustion engine powertrains. The all-electric options include the E variant with a front electric motor and the SE variant with an all-wheel drive setup and a second electric motor at the rear. Both options feature a 64-kWh battery and have an estimated range of up to 450 km.

More information about MINI's next-generation line-up will be revealed at the IAA Mobility 2023 event in September. The event will also showcase other models and feature the debut of the latest G60 5 Series' plug-in hybrid variants and the Vision Neue Klasse.
