Munro Vehicles, a Scottish manufacturer of all-electric 4x4s, is close to completing its first vehicles for customers at its factory in East Kilbride. The company has received over 250 pre-orders for its truck and pick-up models, and expects volume to increase from target markets in mining, construction, utilities, agriculture, and defense.
In an effort to showcase its progress, Munro invited 61 investors, deposit holders, and supporters to witness the production of its first light vehicle in Scotland in over four decades. Conservative MSP Graham Simpson, who is a member of the Scottish Parliament's Sustainable Transport and Energy Efficiency groups, expressed his interest in Munro Vehicles and its potential impact on Scotland's future. He believes that the brand's all-electric 4x4s could provide a solution for sectors that are challenging to decarbonize, such as agriculture, forestry, and wind turbine management. Simpson also highlighted the potential for Munro to become a significant employer in the region, creating highly skilled jobs both within the company and the wider supply chain.
Russell Peterson, CEO and Co-Founder of Munro, expressed his pride in the engineering and passion that goes into building their all-terrain electric vehicles. He welcomed Graham Simpson to their headquarters and showcased the Scottish innovation in sustainable transport.
The first two customer vehicles to be hand-built in Munro's East Kilbride headquarters are Founder Editions. The truck, built to Munro's Range specification, boasts 220kW of power, 600Nm of torque, a 190-mile range, and a 2.5-tonne braked towing weight. The pick-up, on the other hand, features a 280kW battery, 700Nm of torque, a 3.5-tonne towing capacity, and an estimated range of 190 miles.
The Munro MK_1 is equipped with an 82.4kWh battery that can be rapidly recharged from 15% to 80% capacity in just 36 minutes using a 100kW DC charger. A fully charged battery provides a range of over 190 miles, allowing for up to 16 hours of off-road operation on a single charge.
