The reborn British engineering firm TWR (Tom Walkinshaw Racing) has provided more information about its upcoming project, revealing that the first model of its new era will be based on the Jaguar XJS. This indicates that the project will likely involve a comprehensive restomod of the iconic vehicle, with limited availability.

In addition to this exciting news, TWR has welcomed renowned designer and collector Magnus Walker as a Design Consultant for the project. Walker will play a role in the development process, bringing his expertise and creative vision to the table. For the exterior design, TWR has enlisted the talents of Khyzyl Saleem, also known as the Kyza, who is famous for his digital renderings and the extreme bodykits produced by his company Live To Offend (LTO).

The Jaguar XJS, which made its debut in 1975 and remained in production until 1996, was a masterpiece of design by Malcolm Sayer, the same visionary behind its predecessor, the beloved E-Type. TWR has a history of working with XJS-based racecars, enhancing their chassis and V12 engines. Now, the company aims to reimagine and bring the sportscar into the 21st century with the help of a world-class engineering team, as well as the collaboration with designers Magnus Walker and Khyzyl Saleem.

Khyzyl Saleem expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating that it is more than just designing a bodykit but rather creating a fully functioning, performance-driven car. Saleem's goal is to breathe new life into the XJS, which he describes as an "unloved" vehicle, and to deliver something truly badass.

Magnus Walker, who had already envisioned a similar project for the XJS, was thrilled to join forces with TWR. He had previously discussed with Ian Callum the idea of an "outlaw version" of the XJS, similar to Jaguar Classic's XJ6 restomod project for Iron Maiden's drummer Nicko McBrain. Walker believes that the original XJS was misunderstood and aims to make TWR's version drivable in real-world situations, prioritizing drivability, usability, and practicality.

TWR plans to unveil further details about the reimagined Jaguar XJS project in early 2024. In the meantime, enthusiasts can catch a glimpse of the sportscar's muscular rear fenders in the official teaser released by TWR.
