The winners of the 2023 What Car? Electric Car Awards have been announced, showcasing the UK's best new and used electric cars (EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs).

Among the most successful brands this year were BMW, MG, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Volkswagen, each taking home three awards across the new and used car categories.

Three cars stood out as the most successful models, with the MG 5 EV, Porsche Taycan, and Tesla Model 3 each winning two awards.

The MG 5 was recognized as the Best electric estate car in both the new and used car categories, while the Porsche Taycan took home the title of Best new and used performance car. The Tesla Model 3 was awarded Best new and used executive car.

Another notable winner was the Volkswagen ID Buzz, which not only won the Best electric MPV award but also claimed the overall What Car? Car of the Year title earlier in January. Volkswagen also secured victories in the Best used electric family car category (with the ID 3) and Best used hybrid estate car category (with the Passat GTE).

For those looking for an affordable option, the MG 4 EV SE was named the most affordable new electric or hybrid winner at the awards. Currently available for £26,397 through What Car?'s free online New Car Buying service.

In addition to the official awards, the Renault 5 electric hatchback won the Reader Award. This category was decided through a public vote on What Car?'s social media channels, where people were asked to choose the most anticipated upcoming electric model from a shortlist of 12 cars.
