2023 Electric Car Awards unveils UK's best EVs and hybrids

The winners of the 2023 What Car? Electric Car Awards have been announced, showcasing the best new and used electric cars and plug-in hybrids in the UK.

Among the most successful brands this year were BMW, MG, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Volkswagen, each taking home three awards across various categories.

Three cars stood out as the most successful models at the awards, with the MG 5 EV, Porsche Taycan, and Tesla Model 3 each winning two awards.

The MG 5 EV was recognized as the Best electric estate car in both the new and used car categories, while the Porsche Taycan took home the titles of Best new and used performance car. The Tesla Model 3 was named the Best new and used executive car.

One notable winner was the Volkswagen ID Buzz, which was previously crowned the overall What Car? Car of the Year in January. The ID Buzz won the award for Best electric MPV. Volkswagen also won in the categories of Best used electric family car (for the ID 3) and Best used hybrid estate car (for the Passat GTE).

The most affordable new electric or hybrid car to win an award was the MG 4 EV SE, available for £26,397 through What Car?'s free online New Car Buying service.

In the Reader Award category, the Renault 5 electric hatchback emerged as the winner. The winner of this award was decided through a public vote on What Car?'s social media channels, where participants were asked to choose the most exciting upcoming electric model from a shortlist of 12 cars.
