BMW Reintroduces XM Label as High-Powered Safety Car

BMW's most powerful road-going M car, the BMW XM Label Red, has been chosen as the safety car for the MotoGP 2024 season. This high-performance vehicle comes with a sleek grey livery and features Recaro racing seats.

According to Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH, selecting the BMW XM Label Red as the safety car for MotoGP is a logical step. He stated, "It is a logical step for the most powerful BMW M automobile we have ever rolled out to be the new figurehead of our safety car fleet in MotoGP. The first MotoGP Safety Car with an electric drive system is clear evidence of our striving for new, future-oriented technologies."

The BMW XM safety car is the first of its kind to rely on an electric drive system for one of the premier motorcycle racing events. It is important to note that the Label Red offshoot is a more powerful version of the regular BMX XM. While it shares the same 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine, the Label Red has an upgraded version that produces 550 kW and 1,000 N.m of torque, which is distributed to all four wheels through the xDrive system.

The XM Label Red comes equipped with BMW's M Active Professional, which includes electronically controlled dampers and an active stabilization system. The braking power is provided by six-piston, fixed calipers on the front and single-piston floating calipers on the rear.

The XM Label Red safety car stands out with its additional features, including Recaro racing seats, front flashing lights, a safety car roof bar, a front splitter, a six-point seat harness, and a fire extinguisher. Racing enthusiasts can expect to see the XM Label Red safety car make its debut at the opening round of the 2024 season in Qatar next March.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of MotoGP™, expressed his excitement about the BMW XM Label Red Safety Car, stating, "The BMW XM Label Red Safety Car is another genuine highlight in the fleet of high-performance automobiles in use in MotoGP. We are already looking forward to seeing it on the track in Qatar."
