2023 Mercedes-AMG C63 postponed in Australia

The release of the new-generation Mercedes-AMG C63 performance sedan has been delayed from mid-year to the end of 2023. This delay is due to unforeseen production delays, according to a spokesperson from Mercedes-Benz Australia. They are currently working with the factory to ensure that the first deliveries of the new C63 will be in showrooms by the end of this year.

Interestingly, despite slow sales of the C63 in Germany, where the high-performance sedan has already been launched, the delay has been implemented. One possible reason for this is that customers are turning away from the AMG due to its smaller engine and heavier weight compared to its traditional rival, the BMW M3. Furthermore, the C63 received a significant price increase in Germany with the introduction of the new model.

There were reports suggesting that Mercedes was considering swapping the four-cylinder engine for a V8 again. However, company insiders have denied these claims. It seems that the new C63 will indeed feature a turbo four-cylinder hybrid powertrain.

When it eventually arrives at the end of this year, the range-topping Mercedes-AMG C63 S E Performance plug-in hybrid is expected to cost more than $200,000. On the other hand, the C43 is currently available to order and is priced from $134,900 before on-road costs.
