2023 What Car? Electric Car Awards unveils UK's best EVs and hybrids

The winners of the 2023 What Car? Electric Car Awards showcased the UK's top new and used electric cars (EVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs).

Among the most successful brands were BMW, MG, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Volkswagen, with each brand winning three awards across different car categories.

Three cars stood out as the most successful models, with the MG 5 EV, Porsche Taycan, and Tesla Model 3 each winning two awards.

The MG 5 was recognized as the Best electric estate car in both the new and used car categories, while the Porsche Taycan took home the titles of Best new and used performance car. The Tesla Model 3 was crowned as the Best new and used executive car.

One notable winner was the Volkswagen ID Buzz, which had previously been named the overall What Car? Car of the Year in January. At the Electric Car Awards, it won the title of Best electric MPV. Volkswagen also secured wins in the Best used electric family car category with the ID 3 and Best used hybrid estate car category with the Passat GTE.

The most affordable new electric or hybrid winner at the awards was the MG 4 EV SE, which is currently available for purchase at £26,397 through What Car?'s free online New Car Buying service.

In a public vote on What Car?'s social media channels, the Reader Award went to the Renault 5 electric hatchback. Participants were asked to choose their most anticipated electric model from a shortlist of 12 cars.
