2024 Corvette E-Ray's Surprising Achievement

The 2024 Corvette E-Ray has achieved an unexpected but impressive record. By adding a hybrid drivetrain and introducing all-wheel drive to the mid-engine C8 Corvette, the E-Ray has become the fastest Corvette ever. It can go from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds and complete a quarter-mile in 10.5 seconds. Chevy's marketing for the E-Ray will also emphasize its all-weather capabilities, thanks to the all-wheel drive layout, in order to attract a wider range of customers.

Interestingly, the priority given to all-weather performance has resulted in another surprising record for the E-Ray. It comes equipped with the widest all-season tires ever seen on a production vehicle. These tires, the Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season 4+ ZP, measure an impressive 345 millimeters wide at the rear and 275 millimeters wide at the front.

The Michelin Pilot Sport All-Season 4+ ZP tires have a unique tread design with four distinct compounds that enable them to handle low temperatures, rain, and snow. Michelin collaborated with Chevrolet to develop these tires, ensuring that they maintain the same top speed rating as other high-performance options, such as the Pilot Sport 4S and the Cup 2s found on the Z06 or Z07-equipped track models. During a recent E-Ray launch program in Colorado, where the exceptional grip of the tires was demonstrated during the E-Ray first drive, I had the opportunity to speak with Wayne Yount, Michelin's Product Category Manager for OE, about the collaboration with GM in creating the record-setting all-season tires for the E-Ray.
