2024 Kia Sorento Hybrid and PHEV retain previous design

In July, Kia introduced the South Korean market to a refreshed Sorento SUV. The new lineup features updated design elements such as ornate DRLs and taillights, vertically oriented headlights, and a single curved display panel inside above a wide, unbroken air vent.

However, for the U.S. market, the 2024 Sorento remains largely unchanged with only minor trim differences. Unfortunately, both the hybrid and PHEV versions lose the option of the popular Runway Red exterior paint, despite Kia releasing photos of the hybrid model in that color. On a positive note, the $295 Navy Color Pack for the interior, previously only available on the top SX-P trims, can now be paired with Gravity Blue exterior paint, and it comes with a gray headliner instead of the previous black headliner.

Prices for the 2024 Sorento have seen a slight increase compared to the 2023 model. The 2024 Sorento PHEV, available only in the SX-P trim, now starts at $49,990, which is $100 more than before. Additionally, the destination fee has gone up by $30 to $1,325, bringing the total to $51,315. This version of the Sorento is equipped with a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and a 66.9-kW motor, delivering a combined output of 261 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The 14.1-kWh battery pack provides an electric range of up to 32 miles, and the EPA rates the combined fuel economy at 34 miles per gallon when running on gasoline.

For the non-plug-in hybrid version of the 2024 Sorento, the MSRPs after the destination charge are as follows:

  • EX FWD: $36,690 ($130 increase from 2023)
  • EX AWD: $38,990 ($630 increase from 2023)
  • SX-P: $42,490 ($100 increase from 2023)

The biggest price hike is seen in the EX AWD trim, which has increased by more than $600 compared to last year's model.

The powertrain for the non-plug-in hybrid Sorento consists of a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and a 44-kW motor. This combination produces a combined output of 227 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The front-wheel-drive version achieves an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 39 mpg in the city, 35 mpg on the highway, and 37 mpg combined. The all-wheel-drive variant has slightly lower fuel efficiency.

While the refreshed Sorento from Kia's home market may arrive in the U.S. as a 2025 model, we can expect to receive more information about the non-hybrid 2024 Sorento before then.
