Affordable Electric Cars: Kia Unveils EV3 and EV4 Concepts in LA

Kia unveiled two electric vehicle (EV) concepts at the Los Angeles Auto Show, namely the EV3 compact crossover and the EV4 midsize sedan. These models are expected to be available in showrooms by early 2025, expanding Kia's battery-electric vehicle lineup. Additionally, a larger EV5 SUV concept with suicide doors was showcased earlier this year, although it has since been modified with regular doors. It remains uncertain if a US version of the EV5 will be released.

The EV3 and EV4 were initially presented at Kia's EV Day in Korea on October 12. Currently, Kia offers the Niro EV and the EV6 in the US market, but they have plans to introduce more electric cars and crossovers. The EV9 premium electric SUV, which features design cues from the EV3 and EV4, is already available for orders in the US, with prices ranging from $54,900 to $73,900 and a range of 280 to 304 miles depending on the model.

Kia will manufacture the larger EV9 in West Point, Georgia, to qualify for a government tax rebate for buyers, which can save consumers up to $7500. This incentive may motivate Kia to produce the EV3, EV4, or EV5 in the US as well. There have also been rumors of Kia offering a B-segment EV and a GT1 electric sports car.

The EV3 concept is a compact crossover that fits between the Seltos and Soul in terms of size. It is speculated that the EV3 could potentially replace the Soul EV in Kia's US lineup. Kia describes the EV3 as a vision for an electric vehicle that combines the technology, practicality, and design of their flagship SUV, the EV9. The exterior design of the EV3 features a unique silhouette with a forward-pushed windshield, a sloping roofline, and a disconnected C-pillar that creates a floating effect for the roof. The interior of the EV3 blends practicality with a transformative cabin ambiance and design.

The EV4 concept is a midsize sedan that represents a new type of EV with a four-door format. Kia highlights the potent and impactful lines of the EV4's exterior, which incorporate elements reminiscent of sports and racing cars. Inside, the EV4 offers a sleek and spacious horizontal layout. Both the EV3 and EV4 concepts utilize bioplastic and Bio Polyurethane for their interiors, which are eco-friendly alternatives to animal-based materials.

While it is exciting to anticipate the production versions of these EV concepts, their exact release dates and availability are still uncertain at this early stage. Kia aims to provide entry-level affordability with these new EV designs, and they welcome comments and feedback from the public.
