Afghan hotel blast leaves 3 dead, 7 wounded
【Summary】An explosion at a hotel in southeastern Afghanistan's Khost province has killed at least three people and injured seven others. The region, near the border with Pakistan, has been plagued by violence between Islamist militants and their enemies. The exact cause of the blast is still unknown, but previous incidents have been attributed to the regional affiliate of the Islamic State group.
Three people were tragically killed and seven others were injured on Monday (August 14) when a powerful explosion tore through a hotel in southeastern Afghanistan's Khost province. The blast took place in a region near the border with Pakistan, an area that has long been plagued by violence between Islamist militants and their adversaries.
Mustaghfir Gurbaz, a police spokesperson in Khost, revealed that the hotel targeted in the attack is frequently visited by Afghan locals as well as refugees from Pakistan's former militant stronghold of North Waziristan, which shares a border with Afghanistan. The authorities are currently investigating the incident, as the exact cause of the blast remains unclear.
This is not the first time such devastating explosions have occurred in the region. Afghanistan's Taliban government has previously attributed these attacks to the regional branch of the Islamic State group, known as the Islamic State in Khorasan Province.
Pakistan has also raised concerns about the presence of Pakistani Taliban members, also known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), hiding in Khost and other parts of Afghanistan. Meanwhile, Pakistan itself has been experiencing an escalation in violence. Islamabad accuses the Pakistani Taliban militants of waging war against the state and claims that the Taliban in Afghanistan are not doing enough to combat these militants operating from Afghan soil.
As investigations continue into this tragic incident, it serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges faced by both Afghanistan and Pakistan.
