Blast at Afghanistan hotel leaves three dead

At least three people have lost their lives and seven others have been injured in a devastating explosion that occurred in a hotel in Afghanistan's eastern province of Khost. The incident took place on Monday and has raised concerns among authorities.

The explosion took place at a city hotel that is popular among both Afghan residents and individuals originally from Pakistan's North Waziristan province, which shares a border with Afghanistan. Mustaghfir Gurbaz, a police spokesperson in Khost, shared this information with the public on Monday.

As of now, the police are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the blast and identify those responsible for it. No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the explosion yet. However, the Taliban government in Afghanistan has previously attributed similar attacks to the regional affiliate of ISIL (ISIS) known as the Islamic State in Khorasan Province.

Gurbaz did not provide any details regarding the Pakistani refugees who were staying at the hotel at the time of the explosion. Meanwhile, authorities in Pakistan have stated that members of the Pakistani Taliban, also known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan or TTP, are hiding in Khost and other areas in Afghanistan.

Although TTP is a separate group, it is closely linked to the Afghan Taliban, which recently took control of Afghanistan in August 2021 during the final stages of the US and NATO troops' withdrawal after two decades of warfare.

The Taliban, since assuming power, have emphasized their commitment to stabilizing Afghanistan and have conducted multiple operations against ISIL cells in recent months. However, despite their efforts, the United Nations reports that over 1,000 Afghan civilians have lost their lives in bombings and other acts of violence since the departure of US and NATO forces in 2021.
