Automotive Grade Linux Adds 5 New Members Including Adobe & Nuance

SAN FRANCISCO -- Automotive Grade Linux (AGL), a collaborative cross-industry effort developing an open source platform for the connected car, is announcing that five new members have joined the project including Silicon Valley based Adobe Systems and Nuance.

Automotive Grade Linux is a collaborative open source project that is bringing together automakers, suppliers and technology companies to accelerate the development and adoption of a fully open software stack for the connected car. With Linux at its core, AGL is developing an open platform from the ground up that can serve as the de facto industry standard to enable rapid development of new features and technologies.

AGL initially focused on In-Vehicle-Infotainment (IVI), now AGL is the only organization planning to address all software in the vehicle, including instrument cluster, heads up display, telematics, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving.

"The AGL ecosystem is rapidly growing, and we are very excited to expand into new areas like voice recognition and digital marketing, which will enable automakers to easily integrate new consumer features and services into their AGL-based infotainment systems," said Dan Cauchy, Executive Director of Automotive Grade Linux at The Linux Foundation. "We look forward to working with all of our new members as we continue to evolve the AGL Unified Code Base (UCB) and expand into new functions like telematics, instrument cluster and heads-up-display."

Other new members include automotive electronics manufacturer Desay SV Automotive, Fiberdyne Systems, which specializes in automotive audio and video systems, and enterprise security company Trend Micro.

The AGL platform is available to all interested parties, and anyone can participate in its development.

Automotive Grade Linux is hosted at The Linux Foundation. Linux Foundation projects are independently funded software projects that harness the power of collaborative development to fuel innovation across industries and ecosystems.
