Barbie's World: GM Rakes in $8M from Brief Movie Appearance

In the thrilling chase scene of the Barbie movie, we can spot various vehicles apart from GM. These include a Volkswagen Type 2 and some Chevy Suburbans.

Barbie, known for her iconic style, drives a custom electric 1956 Corvette to a party in the film. The Chevy convertible Corvette has captured the audience's attention since the release of the movie's trailer. Greta Gerwig's Barbie made its global debut on July 21, 2023, creating a buzz through extensive social media campaigns and marketing efforts leading up to the release. General Motors, one of the largest automakers, collaborated with the movie's marketing team to showcase their latest vehicles.

The Barbie movie not only brought back childhood nostalgia for Barbie lovers but also provided an opportunity for brands like Mattel to advertise their products. General Motors also benefited from product placement, earning $8 million from the 10 minutes of screen time their vehicles received. In addition to lending their cars to the movie, GM's buildings can be seen in the background of the car chase scene, connecting all the pink dots.

For car enthusiasts, here is a list of all the GM vehicles featured in the Barbie movie:

• Pink C1 Chevy Corvette: This legendary car, painted in pink, made its first appearance in the trailer. Margot Robbie's Barbie is seen driving the Corvette, which sparked a 120% increase in searches for the C1 even before the film's release. The custom-made parts of this vehicle make it 23% smaller than the original Corvette.
• 2024 Chevy Blazer SS EV: Painted in bright blue, this compact SUV is driven by America Ferrera's character, Gloria, in the movie. Gloria performs some impressive stunts in this vehicle while saving Barbie from the clutches of Mattel executives. GM also supplies the bad guys with blacked-out Chevy Suburban SUVs that chase our protagonist.
• GMC Hummer EV: Ken, Barbie's companion, is provided with a GMC Hummer EV by GM. This car is initially seen as a manly vehicle in the real world but gets transformed into pink when Ken enters the Barbie world.

In addition to the GM vehicles, a Volkswagen Type 2 and some Chevy Suburbans can also be spotted following Barbie during the thrilling chase scene. It is worth mentioning that GM is the only major auto manufacturer with a woman CEO, Mary Barra, which aligns with the larger theme of the movie.
