BMW Vision Neue Klasse Unveils Key Insights on the Brand's Future

BMW is set to introduce a radical change in design language with its upcoming Neue Klasse series, which will be applied to all six models initially launched on the platform. These models will be fully electric, with the possibility of hydrogen fuel cell variants. The interiors of the Neue Klasse models will feature a minimalist design with a new iDrive operating system, offering more spaciousness and fewer physical controls.

In 2025, BMW will change course with the introduction of the Neue Klasse series of vehicles. This series will be mostly electric and represent a significant design departure for the brand. The Vision Neue Klasse concept provides a glimpse into what BMWs built after the middle of the decade will look like, and it closely resembles the production version of the all-new 3 Series that will be launched in 2025. While there may be some changes for the series model, this concept gives us insights into the future production model and all BMWs to come after it.

The Vision Neue Klasse concept not only previews the 3 Series sedan but also hints at the six Neue Klasse models to be launched from 2025 until 2027. While BMW has not disclosed the specific models, it is speculated that they will include sedans, crossovers, SUVs, and possibly wagons.

The first major revelation of the Vision Neue Klasse concept is that it showcases BMW's future design language. This study is an evolution of the Dee concept from 2022 and provides a direct preview of the all-new 3 Series electric sedan. The design language seen in this concept will be used throughout the BMW lineup, with all six models built on the Neue Klasse platform incorporating variations of this style. The concept has received positive feedback for its radical and futuristic look, indicating a departure from BMW's recent designs that have faced criticism.

The second major revelation is that the Neue Klasse models will share a bespoke EV platform. While details about the platform are limited, BMW has stated that it will be an EV-centric architecture primarily offered with fully electric power. There will also be some hydrogen fuel cell variants, although they will not be as common as the BEVs. The platform will support various motor configurations, including single- and dual-motor setups, as well as three or four motors for M performance models. The most powerful models are expected to exceed 1,000 kW of power, ensuring an enjoyable driving experience for enthusiasts.

The third major revelation pertains to the interiors of the Neue Klasse models. While the exterior design has been well-received, the study's interior has faced more criticism. It deviates from the traditional BMW interiors and features only the necessary physical controls, with the rest being integrated into the infotainment system. The central screen, running on a new version of the iDrive operating system, is not angled towards the driver as in previous models. Instead, BMW has skewed the base of the screen to provide a similar effect without compromising the front passenger's ability to use it. The Neue Klasse interiors will have a more minimalist design with fewer buttons and shapes, while also offering increased spaciousness.

In addition to the design and interior changes, the Neue Klasse models will feature BMW's sixth-generation eDrive technology. This powertrain and battery technology will bring improvements in charging speed, range, and efficiency. BMW claims that the use of more energy-dense batteries and 25% more efficient electric motors will result in a 30% improvement in charging speed and range. The pure-electric 3 Series is expected to have an EPA range of close to 400 miles, making it a long-range EV.

The Vision Neue Klasse concept represents a positive change for BMW, addressing the criticism of its design decisions in recent years. This concept showcases a striking electric 3 Series that looks like it belongs in a science fiction movie. With the launch of the Neue Klasse series, BMW is also accelerating its shift towards manufacturing exclusively electric cars by 2030.
