The all-new Porsche Cayenne has arrived on UK roads, boasting a larger size, improved efficiency, and a more stylish appearance. Despite its polarizing reputation, the Cayenne is Porsche's best-selling model and provides the financial support for limited-run specials like the GT2 RS. We had the opportunity to test drive the top-spec Turbo variant, which happens to be the fastest 4x4 in the world.

At first glance, the Cayenne Turbo may seem expensive, excessively quick, and irrelevant to most buyers. However, a closer look reveals the extraordinary achievements of Porsche with this car. It offers the benefits of a full-size 4x4, including a comfortable ride, elevated seating position, and ample space in the back. But that's just the beginning. The Turbo variant is as fast as a 911 Carrera 4S in a straight line and nearly as quick through corners, thanks to its impressive performance capabilities and weight-saving measures. The updated styling inside and out is the cherry on top.

Inside the Cayenne, significant changes have taken place, with a rising center console reminiscent of the Panamera. The build quality is exceptional, with sturdy metal and stitched leather covering most surfaces. In line with Porsche's Intelligent Performance mantra, the new Cayenne is 185kg lighter than its predecessor and features standard stop-start technology for improved fuel economy and reduced CO2 emissions.

Under the hood, the Cayenne Turbo is powered by a 4.8-liter twin-turbo engine that delivers a formidable 493bhp. With a flex of the right foot, the SUV can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 4.7 seconds, accompanied by a subdued growl from the quad exhausts. Despite its impressive speed, the Cayenne remains composed and stable at any velocity, with precise steering and excellent braking performance.

When it comes to handling, the Cayenne defies expectations for an SUV. Porsche's Dynamic Chassis control, PASM suspension, and Torque Vectoring Plus system allow the Cayenne to corner with minimal body roll and maximum grip, surpassing its rivals in terms of agility. It can be likened to a sports car on stilts.

While the Range Rover may offer ultimate luxury and comfort, it falls short of the Cayenne's outright performance. The Range Rover's top-of-the-range supercharged 5.0-liter V8 may not match the Cayenne Turbo, but it still delivers a significant punch and excels off-road.
