Children rescued from cable car in Pakistan

Army commandos executed a daring rescue mission in Pakistan as they saved two children from a broken cable car hanging above a canyon. The rescue operation took place in a remote part of the country and was still ongoing at the time of the report. The military released a statement confirming that four more children and two adults were still waiting to be rescued.

Television footage showed one child being safely pulled to the helicopter using a harness, while the commandos' rope swayed in the wind against the mountainous backdrop. The rescue operation was described as extremely delicate due to the possibility of the helicopter blades weakening the remaining cables holding the car aloft.

The trapped individuals' relatives anxiously watched the operation unfold, praying for their safe rescue. The incident captivated the entire nation, with people gathering around televisions in various establishments to follow the developments. Some of those trapped managed to maintain contact with their families by cellphone, bringing some reassurance amidst the tense situation.

The cable car incident occurred when one of the cables snapped while the passengers, aged between 11 and 15, were crossing a river canyon on their way to school. Cable cars are commonly used by villagers to navigate Pakistan's mountainous regions, but they are often poorly maintained, resulting in accidents and casualties.

Helicopters were dispatched to rescue the stranded individuals, who had been hanging precariously 350 meters (1,150 feet) above the ground for six hours. Pakistan's caretaker prime minister issued orders to ensure the safe rescue and evacuation of the eight people, as well as conduct safety inspections on all private chairlifts to prevent similar incidents in the future.

While the helicopters posed a potential risk to the situation, experts believed that the commandos were well aware of the dangers involved. The pilots flew with caution to minimize any further complications. Retired army brigadier and defense expert, Tipu Sultan, expressed hope for the successful rescue of those trapped in the cable car.

In a similar incident in 2017, a cable car in the popular mountain resort of Murree plummeted into a deep ravine, resulting in the deaths of 10 people. This tragic event highlights the need for proper maintenance and safety measures to prevent such accidents from occurring.
