Cleaner CBR600RR: Can it finally...

The historic Suzuki 8 Hours endurance race in Japan showcased Honda's latest update to their CBR600RR supersport bike. While the exterior remains familiar, the Japanese manufacturer has made adjustments to the exhaust and engine to comply with Japanese emissions standards.

Although Honda has not mentioned reintroducing the CBR600RR to the UK or European market, there is a possibility. The recent Japanese emissions standards align closely with the Euro 5 regulations used in these regions. It is conceivable that Honda could make the necessary updates for the European market and potentially bring the CBR600RR back in the future.

However, the situation is not as straightforward as it seems. The supersport market is limited, with the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R being the only true competitor in the UK. The beloved Yamaha R6 has been discontinued and is now only available as a track-ready option. Before making a move, Honda would carefully consider the risk and reward of entering this market.

The UK and European markets are also experiencing a shift in the supersport segment, with the rise of parallel twin-cylinder powerplants. This trend is driving a revolution in the lightweight to middleweight sports bike category. It might be more feasible for Honda to produce and sell a CBR750R in the UK and Europe, potentially utilizing the 90bhp engine from the Honda CB750 Hornet as a starting point.
