DS 3 E-Tense: The Power of Going Electric

I have always been a fan of the original DS 3. It was a small French hatchback that stood out as a credible rival to the BMW Mini. However, the latest DS 3 is a very different proposition. It is now higher, significantly bigger, and only available as a five-door model. It is also very style-focused.

The latest version of the DS 3 is called the DS 3 E-Tense and it is available as a fully electric vehicle. A recent facelift has brought some big improvements, including a better battery, increased range, and greater efficiency.

The styling of the DS 3 E-Tense may not suit everyone, but in the right color, it is very elegant. It features flush-fitting door handles and stylish LED lights, among other classy touches.

Inside, the DS 3 E-Tense is a feast for the eyes. The dashboard features a tessellating diamond effect and the materials used are exquisite. The interior of the DS 3 E-Tense makes you feel special.

The touchscreen infotainment system has been improved and is now easier to use. However, some everyday controls are still buried in touch-screen menus. The driver's display is superb and the seats are sumptuous. The knurled metallic switches on either side of the gear selector are a nice touch.

In the rear, there is plenty of space, but the unusual door pillars limit the amount of light that enters the cabin. This also affects visibility, but top-spec cars come with parking cameras to help with this. Rear parking sensors are standard across the range.

The boot space of the DS 3 E-Tense is a bit tight for an SUV, with a capacity of 350 liters. There is also a noticeable lip at the boot entrance.

The DS 3 E-Tense is available with a few petrol engines, but the electric drivetrain is the standout choice. It has an official range of 250 miles, which translates to around 200 miles in real-world driving. It also has a maximum charging rate of 100kW.

The DS 3 E-Tense is not the most exciting car to drive, but it is comfortable and offers plenty of grip. The suspension is slightly firmer than other DS models, but it still provides a comfortable ride over most surfaces.

It is important to note that the DS 3 E-Tense comes with a premium price tag. The basic model starts at just over £25,000, while the fully specced Opera trim can cost over £40,000. However, the Opera trim offers equipment levels befitting of the brand, including full driver assist, a head-up display, and a luxurious leather interior.

Despite the higher price, DS fans will appreciate the DS 3 E-Tense for its proper DS feel and the calm, plush demeanor of the car. It is a small car that feels substantial and luxurious. After spending a week with it, I was quite taken with the DS 3 E-Tense.
