Electric Jaguar GT signals brand's fresh start

Jaguar is set to embark on its all-electric future with a £100,000 four-door GT, and a new image gives us a glimpse of what to expect. The rear view of the car reveals a departure from the current design direction of Jaguar's lineup, featuring squared-off angles and a wide stance. The teaser image released by Jaguar suggests that the GT will combine these design elements with solid surfacing, advanced aerodynamics, and razor-thin tail-lights. The goal is to create a fresh visual identity that expresses the emotion of the brand.

The process of developing this new design language, described as "jaw-dropping" by JLR boss Adrian Mardell, was initiated by Chief Creative Officer Gerry McGovern through Project Renaissance. Three teams within JLR's design studio were given a common brief to produce three distinct types of vehicles, resulting in 18 clay-model proposals in just three months. Prototypes of the new GT are expected to hit the road by the end of the year, with an official unveiling planned for 2024 and sales scheduled for 2025.

Furthermore, the new GT provides insight into the future of Jaguar's lineup, as Mardell emphasizes the importance of a cohesive family look. As part of JLR's Reimagine strategy, Jaguar is being fully rebooted and positioned alongside Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery as one of the four brand pillars. The GT, along with two new crossovers, will be manufactured at the Solihull plant, which will also produce the all-electric Range Rover. The GT is expected to be the most powerful Jaguar production car ever made, surpassing the I-Pace in terms of range and charging capacity.

While specific motor outputs and performance figures have not been released, Jaguar claims that the new GT will offer up to 700km (435 miles) of range and can add approximately 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes of rapid charging.
