Electric Orca Delivery Commences at Taiga Motors
【Summary】Taiga Motors has started delivering a more affordable version of its electric personal watercraft, the Orca. The original model, the Orca Carbon, was priced at $26,500, but the new Orca Performance is available for $19,490. Both models have a 24kWh battery pack and 160 horsepower electric motor, offering around 2 hours of riding on a single charge. The Performance model can be charged in 3.5 hours, while the Carbon model can be charged in just 40 minutes with an additional CCS charging port.
Last July, Taiga Motors introduced its first electric personal watercraft (PWC), the Orca, with the launch of the Carbon model. Priced at $26,500, the Carbon featured a carbon fiber shell, which not only reduced weight but also enhanced the overall design.
However, the high price tag of the Orca Carbon, compared to traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) PWCs that cost around $15,000, made it a less attractive option for some buyers.
Despite the price difference, the Orca was the first electric PWC to hit the market, similar to the original Tesla Roadster, which had a high price but attracted buyers who wanted to be the first to own this innovative technology.
Now, Taiga Motors is making the Orca more affordable with the introduction of the Orca Performance model, priced at $19,490. The Performance model shares the same propulsion system as the Carbon, with a 24kWh battery pack and a 160 horsepower electric motor, providing approximately 2 hours of riding time or about 27 miles.
When the battery is depleted, the Orca comes with a 6.6kW onboard charger, allowing for a charge time of three and a half hours. For an additional $650, buyers can opt for an onboard CCS charging port, which reduces the charge time to just forty minutes for an 80% charge.
In the future, Taiga Motors plans to release a Sport variant of the Orca, which will offer a lower output of 90 horsepower and start at $17,490.
Despite the introduction of the Performance and Sport models, Taiga Motors will continue production of the Carbon model. Buyers who choose the Carbon can also opt for the fast charge package and select different seat and body colors at no additional cost.
