Electric vehicles steal the spotlight at Munro's East Kilbride event
【Summary】Munro Vehicles, a manufacturer of all-electric 4x4s, showcased its first customer vehicles entering production during an open day in East Kilbride. The Founder Editions of the Munro MK_1, a ground-breaking electric vehicle with a full-time 4x4 mechanical drivetrain, were on display. The vehicles offer impressive power, towing capacity, and range, making them suitable for various purposes. Munro has already received over 250 pre-orders and is close to completing its first two production models.
MUNRO Vehicles recently hosted MSP Graham Simpson at its headquarters to witness the production of its first all-electric 4x4 vehicles. The company organized an open day in East Kilbride, where 61 investors, deposit holders, and fans were given tours of the workshops where the customer vehicles are being built.
During the visit, there was a Q&A session with the founders of Munro, where visitors had the opportunity to ask questions about production schedules and the capabilities of the MK_1 electric-powered, four-wheel-drive vehicle.
The first two Munro MK_1 customer vehicles being built in East Kilbride are Founder Editions. The first vehicle is a black truck, constructed to Munro's Range specification, with 220kW of power, 600Nm of torque, an estimated range of 190 miles, and a towing capacity of 2.5 tonnes.
The second vehicle is a gloss-white pick-up built in the Performance specification, featuring a 280kW battery, 700Nm of torque, an estimated range of 190 miles, and a towing capacity of 3.5 tonnes.
The Munro MK_1 is a groundbreaking solution that combines the reliability and repairability of a full-time 4x4 mechanical drivetrain with an electric powertrain, resulting in zero tailpipe emissions. The rear bed of the vehicle can carry a payload of 1,050kg, while the Performance model has a maximum braked towing capacity of 3,500kg, making it suitable for various purposes such as hauling farm implements, livestock, construction equipment, and disaster relief supplies.
Munro has already received over 250 pre-orders for both the truck and pick-up models. With the support of financial partners, the company is close to completing its first two production models and is ready to tap into the significant global market opportunity.
Graham Simpson MSP, a member of the Scottish Parliament sustainable transport and renewable energy and energy efficiency cross-party groups, expressed his fascination with Munro Vehicles and commended them as Scotland's first volume automotive manufacturer in over four decades.
Munro CEO and co-founder Russell Peterson stated that the team is proud to showcase the engineering and passion behind their all-terrain electric vehicles. They were delighted to welcome MSP Graham Simpson to their headquarters and demonstrate Scottish innovation in sustainable transport.
