Jaguar Land Rover is set to produce an electric version of its Defender model in Slovakia, as reported by Bloomberg. Although specific details have not yet been finalized, a spokesperson for JLR confirmed that the Nitra plant in Slovakia will continue to be the "home of the Defender". This move is part of JLR's larger plan to introduce nine fully electric models by 2030, including six electric models from the Range Rover and Jaguar brands at its UK plants in Solihull and Halewood.

Earlier this month, the automaker, which is owned by India's Tata Motors, unveiled a new £250 million test facility in Coventry. This investment demonstrates JLR's commitment to innovation and development in the electric vehicle sector. In 2019, JLR had already announced that the new Defender model would be manufactured in Slovakia, marking a significant shift from its previous production in Solihull, UK.

The Defender, which had been in production for nearly 70 years, came off the assembly line in 2016. This decision to produce an electric version of the iconic vehicle reflects JLR's dedication to sustainability and meeting the demands of the evolving automotive market. By expanding its electric vehicle lineup, JLR aims to stay competitive and cater to the growing demand for electric vehicles worldwide.
