BMW has announced that their most powerful road-going M car, the BMW XM Label Red, will be the safety car for the MotoGP 2024 season. This car features a grey livery and Recaro racing seats.
According to Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH, this is a significant milestone for BMW. He stated, "It is a logical step for the most powerful BMW M automobile we have ever rolled out to be the new figurehead of our safety car fleet in MotoGP. The first MotoGP Safety Car with an electric drive system is clear evidence of our striving for new, future-oriented technologies."
The BMW XM safety car is the first vehicle of its kind to rely on an electric drive system for a premier motorcycle racing event. It is a more powerful version of the regular BMX XM, with a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that produces 550 kW and 1,000 N.m. This power is distributed to all four wheels through BMW's xDrive system.
The XM Label Red is equipped with BMW's M Active Professional system, which includes electronically controlled dampers and an active stabilisation system. The car also features six-piston, fixed callipers on the front and single-piston floating callipers on the rear for optimal stopping power.
In addition to these performance enhancements, the XM Label Red safety car is equipped with Recaro racing seats, front flashing lights, a safety car roof bar, a front splitter, a six-point seat harness, and a fire extinguisher. This car will make its debut in March next year at the opening round of the 2024 season in Qatar.
Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of MotoGP™, expressed excitement about the BMW XM Label Red Safety Car, stating, "The BMW XM Label Red Safety Car is another genuine highlight in the fleet of high-performance automobiles in use in MotoGP. We are already looking forward to seeing it on the track in Qatar."
