EV inquiry launched by MPs

An inquiry has been launched by the House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee to gain a better understanding of how the UK will achieve net zero through the use of electric vehicles (EVs). The committee will specifically focus on the barriers to decarbonizing cars and vans in the country, particularly passenger cars.

Committee chair Baroness Kate Parminter emphasized the importance of individual action in reaching net zero, stating, "Using EVs for passenger transport will be a part of that and the Government has committed to ending the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030."

The committee's investigation will include an examination of the Government's approach to achieving the phase-out dates of 2030 and 2035, as well as issues related to national and regional infrastructure and charging.

Baroness Parminter also expressed the committee's desire to hear from the public about their experiences with acquiring and using EVs in the UK, as well as the barriers they face. They are also seeking input from industry, local authorities, and other stakeholders interested in decarbonizing transport to determine what actions the Government needs to take to encourage greater adoption of EVs before the 2030 and 2035 targets.
