Honda is issuing a recall for over 300,000 of its vehicles due to a seatbelt issue that could potentially increase the risk of injury in a crash. The affected models include the 2023 and 2024 HR-Vs and Accords, which are missing rivets designed to secure seatbelts during accidents.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration discovered that the current seatbelts do not meet certain federal safety standards, such as "Occupant Crash Protection," "Seat Belt Assemblies," and "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."
Although there have been no reported injuries, Honda will be sending recall letters to affected owners starting on January 8, 2024. The company will install the missing rivets free of charge. Owners who have already paid for rivet installation may be eligible for reimbursement.
For more information, vehicle owners can visit nhtsa.gov or contact the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 or Honda at 1-888-234-2138.
In addition to this recent recall, Honda previously issued a recall for nearly 250,000 vehicles due to an engine defect that could cause stalling. While no injuries were reported, the company had to address 1,450 warranty claims.
Furthermore, over 1 million Honda vehicles were recalled during the summer due to rearview camera issues, where the images were not displaying on the dashboard screen.
Toyota, Honda's main competitor in Japan, also recalled nearly 2 million vehicles on November 1 due to a fire risk associated with certain replacement batteries.
