Volkswagen of America announced that pricing for the 2023 ID.4 electric compact SUV will start at an MSRP of $37,495, making the electric SUV much more affordable than Tesla’s popular Model Y, as the ID.4 is eligible for the $7,500 EV tax credit in the U.S. The new ID.4 is being assembled in the U.S. at Volkswagen’s factory Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Electric vehicle manufacturer XPeng Inc, which is becoming one of Tesla’s biggest rivals in China with its high tech EVs, has set up a data center with Alibaba Cloud to train its autonomous driving systems. The cloud-based data center will be used to train XPeng’s machine learning models to improve the autonomous driving capabilities of its vehicles much more quickly.

General Motors is expanding its Super Cruise network in North America by doubling the number of roads where drivers can activate the hand-free automated highway driving feature. The expanded network includes a combination of undivided and divided highway roads. GM is also adding the famed Pacific Coast Highway (Route 1) is California, which allows for hands-free driving along the scenic coast from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

Lidar developer Innoviz Technologies Ltd, which is among one of the leading developers of the laser technology for advanced driver assist systems (ADAS) and autonomous driving, has landed a major supply deal with Volkswagen’s software unit CARIAD. Volkswagen Group China (VGC), the joint venture of Germany-based Volkswagen Group, unveiled its first electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) passenger drone prototype nicknamed "Flying Tiger".
