Jeep Avenger expands lineup with hybrid and gasoline options

Jeep is expanding its Avenger crossover line-up with new versions that include a mild hybrid and petrol models. These additions join the existing fully electric model. The baby SUV, which was recently crowned European Car of the Year 2023, now offers a mild hybrid petrol option. This variant features a 100hp 1.2-litre three-cylinder petrol engine paired with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. It also includes an integrated 29hp electric motor and steering wheel paddles.

The 48V mild hybrid technology, already seen in other Stellantis models, provides additional torque at low speeds and reduces CO2 emissions by up to 15% compared to a conventional combustion engine with an automatic transmission. The mild hybrid Avenger is expected to have CO2 emissions of up to 114g/km and achieve 46mpg WLTP combined.

In addition to the new powertrain options, the Avenger e-Hybrid will debut additional features such as a sunroof, powered driver's seat with massage function, and a 7-inch driver's display (with an optional 10.25-inch screen). It will be available in the same Longitude, Altitude, and Summit grades as the fully electric model. Drivers will also have the choice of two new connected services packs.

For those seeking a petrol variant, Jeep is introducing a limited-edition model called the Avenger Altitude Plus. This version features the 100hp 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine from the mild hybrid variant, paired with a manual transmission. It delivers a maximum torque of 205Nm and achieves approximately 42mpg WLTP. The Altitude Plus comes with high-end features as standard, including navigation, reversing camera, JBL-branded eight-speaker premium audio system, 18-inch alloy wheels, heated seats, front and rear velour carpet mats, blind spot monitoring, and automatic high beam headlights.

These new additions join the Avenger's fully electric version, which was Jeep's first-ever fully electric model and launched earlier this year. The Avenger EV offers up to 248 miles WLTP combined, 156hp of power, and a 100kW rapid charging rate. It is available in three trims, with prices starting from £35,700.

Jeep's electrification plan in Europe began at the end of 2020, with the introduction of the 4xe plug-in hybrid versions of the Compass, Renegade, and the new Grand Cherokee. The brand has committed to offering an electrified variant for all its vehicles by 2025, while also emphasizing the importance of customer choice in powertrains.

Eric Laforge, head of the Jeep brand in Europe, stated that the new Avenger e-Hybrid represents another step towards electrification, offering an eco-friendly vehicle that caters to a wide range of customers seeking capability, style, technology, and comfort in a compact dimension. The e-Hybrid model will be available for orders in December, with first deliveries expected in Q2 2024. The limited-edition Avenger Altitude Plus petrol variant will also be available in December. Prices and official performance and economy figures have yet to be announced.
