Kia EV5: A Stylish Electric SUV for 2024
【Summary】Kia has officially revealed the EV5, a practical and spacious five-seat electric SUV. Initially designed for the Chinese market, a European and UK launch is highly likely. The EV5 is part of Kia's expanding family of bespoke electric cars and will serve as an electric alternative to the Kia Sportage. With a length of 4615mm, width of 1875mm, and height of 1715mm, the EV5 aims to redefine the aesthetics of the compact SUV sector.
The new Kia EV5 has been unveiled as a practical and spacious five-seat electric SUV with a sleek design. Earlier this year, a near-production concept of the car was previewed, and leaked images of the final version provided hints about its design. However, Kia has now officially revealed details about the car's design at the Chengdu motor show in China. Full technical specifications will be announced closer to the launch of the vehicle.
Initially, the EV5 has been designed for the Chinese market and will be manufactured there. However, it is highly likely that the car will also be launched in Europe and the UK. Kia has promised to provide more information about the launch in "select global markets" at an event in October. This new model is part of Kia's expanding family of bespoke electric cars, following the EV6 and EV9. The EV5 is closely related to the larger EV9 and will serve as an electric alternative to the Kia Sportage crossover.
Rivals for the EV5 will include the Skoda Enyaq iV, Mercedes EQB, Ford Explorer, and Fisker Ocean. Recently, details about the EV5's dimensions have been published on the Chinese Ministry of Transport homologation platform. The car measures 4615mm in length, 1875mm in width, and 1715mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2750mm and a kerbweight of 1870kg.
The influence of the flagship EV9 is evident in the EV5's design, with its upright two-box silhouette, chunky lower body cladding, and distinctive alloy wheel designs. The EV5 also shares the aggressive 'tiger nose' front end design and kinked rear beltline with its sibling models in the electric Kia lineup. Kia claims that the EV5 combines transformative design, exceptional versatility, and outstanding comfort to deliver a harmoniously balanced vehicle. The company aims for the EV5 to exceed the aesthetics of the existing compact SUV sector.
