Leader in the Field
【Summary】The Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) is gaining popularity among European countries and Brazil, with several countries signing deals or receiving deliveries. Oshkosh's Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle was selected for the JLTV in 2015 and has since been awarded contracts worth billions of dollars. Brazil, the only customer outside the northern hemisphere, ordered a dozen vehicles for its Marine Corps.
Shephard Defence Insight reports that several European countries, including Belgium, Italy, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and the UK, as well as Brazil, have signed deals or are considering the JLTV. The JLTV has become an iconic vehicle in a short period of time.
In 2015, Oshkosh won the contract for the JLTV. In June 2023, the company announced that it had built the 20,000th vehicle. AM General, the maker of the original Humvee, was selected for a recompete in February 2023 and was awarded a contract worth $8.66 billion. Oshkosh has received multiple production contracts since its original win in 2015.
Brazil, the only customer outside the northern hemisphere, has ordered a dozen JLTVs for the Brazilian Marine Corps. The total value of the contract is $15.19 million, including an integrated logistics support package from Oshkosh. Slovakia has ordered 160 JLTVs, and Romania has increased its order to 129 vehicles. Lithuania has ordered 200 vehicles and expects to receive an additional 300 under a 2022 deal.
The JLTV provides MRAP-level protection and can be modified to meet changing operational requirements. Oshkosh has developed a hybrid-electric JLTV called eJLTV, which offers silent drive, extended silent watch, and exportable power. Oshkosh has appealed the selection of AM General, but the objection was denied. AM General is expected to begin production soon, while Oshkosh can continue to sell JLTV A1 vehicles through 2025.
