Lexus Drives Toyota Indiana Towards a Bright Future

Toyota Indiana celebrated a significant milestone as it began production of the first-ever Lexus TX, a new luxury SUV. This marks the first time a Lexus SUV is being assembled in the U.S., and it's a proud moment for Toyota Indiana. The plant had previously announced an $803 million investment to assemble two new SUVs, showcasing the automaker's commitment to U.S. manufacturing and the Indiana workforce.

The launch of the Lexus TX follows the successful introduction of the Grand Highlander by Toyota Indiana. Leah Curry, the president of Toyota Indiana, expressed her excitement at being designated as a Lexus plant, stating that it brings honor and prestige to the team's daily work. The TX is designed with North American drivers in mind and offers the comfort, innovative technology, refined performance, and luxurious amenities that customers expect from Lexus.

Preparing the facility, people, and processes for the luxury line required years of evaluation, elevation, and learning new procedures unique to Lexus. Tim Hollander, the vice president of manufacturing, emphasized Toyota Indiana's unwavering commitment to excellence, which played a significant role in Lexus choosing the plant. Governor Eric J. Holcomb praised Toyota's commitment to expanding production in Princeton and creating quality career opportunities for the community.

In celebration of this milestone, Toyota Indiana is donating $300,000 to the Koch Family Children's Museum of Evansville's Play-it Forward campaign. The funds will be used to create an innovative mobile museum that extends access to interactive STEAM activities for children throughout the region.

Toyota has been a part of the U.S. for over 65 years and is dedicated to advancing sustainable mobility through its Toyota and Lexus brands. Toyota's commitment to electrified vehicles is evident with plans to manufacture automotive batteries for electrified vehicles at its 10th plant in North Carolina by 2025. The company currently offers 26 electrified options.
