Lotus unveils revolutionary e-bike with advanced Mars Lander technology.

Lotus, the car maker, has introduced a new high-performance e-bike that incorporates technology from the Mars Lander Project. The Lotus Type 136 e-bike, priced at £20,000 (€25,000), is built on the success of the Type 108 bike used in the 1992 Barcelona Games and continues the legacy of Lotus bikes. Handmade in Italy, the e-bike features a lightweight carbon fibre frame weighing 9.8kg and is powered by the lightest e-bike motor from High Performance System (HPS).

The motor system from HPS weighs only 1.2kg in total, with the motor itself weighing just 300 grams. The battery, cleverly disguised as a water bottle, can be easily detached from the frame with the push of a button. The Type 136 is being released as an exclusive limited first edition, with only 136 bikes available. Each bike will be individually numbered and will come in an iconic motorsport livery. The standard model will be available for purchase in Spring 2024.

Sir Chris Hoy, a former Olympic cyclist, expressed his admiration for the Lotus Type 136, recalling his memories of the Type 108 bike used in the 1992 Barcelona Games. Feng Qingfeng, CEO of Lotus Group, which is owned by Geely in China, emphasized the company's commitment to innovation and pushing the boundaries of performance with the launch of the Type 136. The e-bike joins the ranks of other innovative Lotus vehicles such as Eletre, Emeya, and Evija.
