Magnitude 7.0 Earthquake Hits Bali Sea, Indonesia

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 struck the sea north of Bali and Lombok islands in Indonesia in the early hours of Tuesday, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). The epicenter of the quake was located 203 kilometers north of Mataram, Indonesia, and was recorded at a depth of 516 kilometers beneath the Earth's surface.

Both Indonesian and U.S. geological agencies measured the magnitude of the earthquake at 7.1, but confirmed that there was no threat of a tsunami. The quake was felt across coastal areas in Bali and Lombok just before 4 a.m. and was followed by two smaller quakes measuring 6.1 and 6.5, as reported by the Indonesian geological agency.

Guests at the Mercure Kuta Bali hotel in Bali were startled by the tremors and quickly evacuated their rooms. Hotel manager Suadi mentioned that although some guests left their rooms, they remained within the hotel area and have since returned. Fortunately, there was no damage to the building.

According to the Indonesian disaster agency BNPB, there have been no immediate reports of damage. BNPB spokesperson Abdul Muhari stated that due to the depth of the earthquake, it is not expected to cause significant destruction.
