DAF Trucks has unveiled its latest New Generation DAF XB truck series, which includes a range of distribution and vocational vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of 7.5 to 19 tonnes. The new series aims to support transport companies in their transition to zero emissions by offering both battery electric and conventionally powered vehicles. The DAF XB combines low environmental impact with high efficiency, safety, and comfort.

The new DAF XB series sets new standards for city and regional distribution, offering tailor-made solutions between 7.5 and 19 tonnes GVW. It boasts the lowest carbon footprint in its class, along with leading efficiency, safety, and comfort features. The battery electric models in the series are specifically designed for urban distribution, with variants available at 12, 16, and 19 tonnes GVW. These models offer ranges of up to 350 kilometers and can be charged from 20 to 80% in just 40 to 70 minutes. DAF also provides dedicated sales support, planning advice, training, and a range of charging solutions to support the transition to electric vehicles.

The DAF XB series is equipped with powerful and efficient PACCAR PX-5 and PX-7 engines, ranging from 124 kW (170 hp) to 227 kW (310 hp). These engines offer excellent fuel efficiency and peak torque at low engine speeds, enabling down-speeding. The series also supports the use of HVO (Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil), which can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 90% in a 'well-to-wheel' scenario.

In terms of safety, the new DAF XB series sets new standards with a full set of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). These systems include drive-off assist, DAF Side & Turn Assist, rear-view camera, speed limit recognition, tyre pressure monitoring system, drowsiness detector, alcohol interlock installation, and an event data recorder. The series also offers outstanding direct vision, thanks to its low cab positioning, large windscreen, and side windows. The driver's comfort is not compromised, as the XB series features high-quality cabs with wide-opening doors, low cab position, comfortable seats, and a customizable digital display.

In addition to the distribution models, DAF is introducing the XBC series for construction applications. The XBC series offers high ground clearance, an excellent approach angle, and a sturdy bumper, making it ideal for tough terrains and utility applications.

The new DAF XB series represents a significant expansion of DAF Trucks' product range and completes the New Generation line-up, which includes XD, XF, XG, and XG+ trucks for various applications. With its focus on zero-emission vehicles, efficiency, safety, and driver comfort, the DAF XB series is poised to contribute to the development of livable cities. Production of the new series is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2023.
