Nikola's Recall of Delivered Trucks for Fire Risk
【Summary】Nikola Corp. is recalling all 209 battery-powered electric trucks due to a coolant leak causing fires. Sales are suspended, and the company is contacting affected parties. A third-party investigation confirmed the cause, ruling out foul play or external factors. Efforts are underway to provide a solution.
Nikola Corp. has announced that it is recalling all of its battery-powered electric trucks and suspending sales after discovering a coolant leak inside a battery pack as the cause of recent fires. The company is currently in the process of contacting all parties involved, including dealers and customers, as there are a total of 209 trucks in the marketplace.
A spokesperson for Nikola confirmed that the preliminary findings of the investigation, conducted by a third-party investigator, were supported by a "minor thermal incident" on one pack of a parked engineering-validation truck. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
In a statement, Nikola stated that foul play or external factors were unlikely to have caused the incident. The company is now working on providing a remedy for the issue. The investigation was initially launched in June after trucks at the company's Phoenix, Arizona headquarters caught fire. Last month, a damaged truck at the Phoenix site reignited, further prompting the investigation.
