Nikola's Truck Recall for Fire Hazard

Nikola Corp. has announced that it is recalling all of its battery-powered electric trucks and suspending sales following an investigation into recent fires. The investigation found that a coolant leak inside a battery pack was the cause of the fires.

The company is taking action to recall the total of 209 battery-powered electric trucks that are currently in the marketplace. This includes vehicles with dealers and customers. Nikola is in the process of contacting all parties involved, according to a spokesperson for the company.

The findings of the investigation were supported by a "minor thermal incident" on one pack of a parked engineering-validation truck. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Nikola stated that foul play or external factors were unlikely to have caused the incident.

Nikola initially suspected foul play when it began the investigation in June after trucks at its Phoenix, Arizona headquarters caught fire. One damaged truck, which was being monitored at the Phoenix site, re-ignited last month.
