Omoda, a subsidiary of China's largest car manufacturer, Chery Group, has recently introduced its latest SUV, the Omoda 5. This new model is set to hit the market in February 2024 and will be available with both petrol and electric powertrains.
Earlier this year, Fleet News had the exclusive opportunity to take a closer look at the Omoda 5 during a walkaround. During this event, Omoda expressed its ambition to establish a network of 50 showrooms in the UK.
The design of the Omoda 5 draws inspiration from various sources, including the Cupra Formentor, MG 4, and Nissan Aryia. Inside, the dashboard features a striking resemblance to the Kia EV6, boasting a pair of conjoined 10.25-inch screens and a row of touch-sensitive quick keys.
According to Omoda's press material, the Omoda 5 will come equipped with a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine generating 197PS. Additionally, an electric version of the SUV will also be available from the moment it goes on sale.
Although no official specifications for the UK-bound electric version have been released, Omoda did showcase the car at the Shanghai motor show in May. During the event, the brand highlighted key features such as a 61kWh battery pack offering a range of 280 miles, a power output of 224PS, and a charging time of approximately 35 minutes for a 10% to 80% charge.
Customers can expect the Omoda 5 to be available for purchase towards the end of 2023, with the first deliveries scheduled for February 2024.
