Russian President Vladimir Putin will not be attending the funeral of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner mercenaries who died in a plane crash last week, according to the Kremlin. The crash occurred two months after Prigozhin and his mercenaries staged a mutiny against Putin's military commanders. The mutiny involved taking control of the city of Rostov and advancing towards Moscow before ultimately turning back. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that there are no plans for Putin to attend the funeral and that the arrangements are being handled by the family.
Investigators have confirmed that Prigozhin was among the ten people killed in the crash through genetic tests. However, the Kremlin has vehemently denied the claims made by some Western politicians and commentators that Putin ordered Prigozhin's assassination as an act of revenge. They have dismissed these allegations as an "absolute lie."
