On the NHTSA website, detailed user issues can be found. One owner from Trenton, ME, shares their experience with intermittent power steering problems. They mention that sometimes the power steering is there, but other times it cuts out while driving. They also discovered that other vehicles from the same year and manufacturer have the same issue and have been recalled, but not theirs.

An even more alarming testimonial comes from an owner in Monroe, GA. They describe a situation where their truck completely lost steering power, leaving them with no control over the steering. Fortunately, they were able to stop without getting into an accident.

Recent news reveals that 29,000 units of the 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 trucks were issued a "do not drive" advisory due to Takata Airbag recalls.

The NHTSA is currently conducting an investigation into the power steering issues with the Ram 1500s. The decision regarding a potential recall has not been made yet. However, the agency strongly advises owners of the affected Ram 1500s to promptly report any power steering problems they encounter.
